Turquoise Nexus Initiative (TNI)

The FAO and Türkiye’s COP31 Presidency (2026) introduced the Turquoise Nexus Initiative (TNI) during the Bonn Climate Change Conference 2026. It is scheduled for formal launch at COP31 in 2026 and will aim to enable developing countries to embed integrated food-water-climate approaches into their NDCs and Paris Agreement implementation efforts.

Objective

  • It is aimed at integrating food security, water management and climate adaptation into national climate plans.
  • It seeks to address fragmentation in the way national climate commitments reflect water, agriculture, food security and adaptation measures.

Key Features

  • It is a proposed programme under FAO’s multistakeholder Food and Agriculture for Sustainable Transformation (FAST) Partnership which was launched by the COP27 Presidency in 2022 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
  • It will help developing countries align NDCs and Paris Agreement efforts with farmer-inclusive strategies and improved climate finance.
  • It will bring together governments, international organizations, research institutions, civil society, and the private sector around a common agenda for climate-resilient, water-centered agriculture and food systems.

FAST Partnership

  • The FAST Partnership is a multi-stakeholder partnership that aims to catalyze and accelerate the transformation of agriculture and food systems by 2030 for people, climate, and nature.
  • It was launched by the COP27 Presidency in 2022 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
